Thrilling Weekend at Butterfly London Academy 2 Star Open
In a weekend filled with intense table tennis action, the Edgware-based Butterfly London Academy 2 Star Open witnessed some remarkable performances from the athletes. The tournament featured seven competitions, ranging from the Under-11s to the Seniors, with the hosts and two standout clubs, eBaTT and Archway, emerging as the big winners.
The Senior Mixed event saw a highly competitive field of 35 players, with Lok Yee Lo claiming the gold medal after defeating eBaTT’s Sammy Kaye in a hard-fought final. The Under-19 Mixed event was dominated by eBaTT, as top seed Ben Levi emerged victorious, defeating third seed Nilay Balaji in the final. Levi’s relentless attacking proved too much for his opponent, despite a determined defensive display.
In the Under-15 Girls category, Chi Yin (Gianna) Pang secured the gold medal, beating the top seed Soraya-Rahmani Walentynska in a close four-set match. Stanmore’s Maahi Malde took the bronze. On the boys’ side, Yacoub Rahmani-Walentynski clinched the Under-15 Boys title, defeating Elkanah Gordon from Greenhouse in the final.
The Under-13 competitions saw Assil Sarri living up to her top seeding in the Girls’ event, while Caleb Tsang emerged victorious in the Boys’ competition after a closely contested final against Arjun Anchan.
The Under-11 event was dominated by Archway, with Jayden Xuan Chen taking the gold medal in the Championship Division, while his clubmate Cindy Xiao secured the silver. In the Consolation Division, London Academy’s Nicholas Andrei emerged as the champion.
The tournament’s success was further highlighted by the participation of Max Radiven, who took time out of his busy international schedule to inspire the young talents in the Under-15 category.
