Top seeds Connor Green and Tianer Yu secured the gold medals at the Junior National Cup held at BATTS TTC in Harlow. This prestigious event saw the top 10 players in the rankings compete in a round-robin format over the weekend to determine the medallists.
Tianer Yu, the top seed in the girls’ event, had an almost flawless run, conceding only two games on her way to the title. Ella Pashley, the sixth seed, claimed the silver medal with seven victories, while second seed Sienna Jetha took bronze.
In the boys’ competition, top seed Connor Green narrowly edged out Joseph Hunter to clinch the gold, with both finishing on six wins and two losses. The bronze medal was shared between Felix Thomis and Ralph Pattison.
The medallists were presented with their awards by Table Tennis England President Jill Parker MBE and Director Don Parker.
The event featured several close encounters, including Mabel Shute’s terrific comeback from 2-0 down to defeat Jonabel Taguibao, and Maliha Baig’s similar fightback against Anna Green. Saskia Key and Rebecca Savage also recorded hard-fought 3-2 victories over their respective opponents.
On the second day, Yu continued her dominant performance, while Pashley secured four wins to solidify her silver medal position. The boys’ competition saw Connor Green secure a crucial victory over Joseph Hunter, a result that proved pivotal in the final standings.
This Junior National Cup provided an exciting showcase of the future stars of table tennis, with the champions and medallists demonstrating the depth of talent in the sport.
