Aspiring Table Tennis Stars Invited to Apply for Prestigious Diploma Program
Talented table tennis players aged 16 to 18 are now being offered the chance to apply for the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) program for the 2024/25 academic year. This government-funded initiative combines elite-level training opportunities with comprehensive education, providing a unique pathway for young athletes to develop both their on-court skills and off-court knowledge.
Successful applicants who complete the two-year program will be awarded 64 UCAS points, which can be used towards their university entrance requirements. The application window is now open, with a deadline of 9 a.m. on Friday, August 2nd.
Benefits of the DiSE Program
Natalie Green, the DiSE Lead, highlighted the program’s benefits, stating:
“The Diploma in Sporting Excellence is a fantastic opportunity that enables athletes to blend physical and theoretical learning, supporting them in taking their game to new heights. It allows players to gain extra training time on the table through camps, while also earning a recognized BTEC Pearson Level 3 qualification that contributes towards UCAS points for university enrollment.”
Learner Perspective
Hannah Silcock, a current DiSE learner, shared her positive experience with the program, saying:
“The Diploma for Sporting Excellence has been an excellent chance to combine the theoretical aspects of performance sport, such as nutrition, program planning, and lifestyle, with the ability to put that learning into practice through structured workshops. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first year in the DiSE program, as it has allowed me to train and improve my table tennis skills while also teaching me ways to enhance my sporting lifestyle off the table. I would recommend this program to any aspiring performance table tennis players.”
