English Leagues Cup Competitions Finals: Norwich Emerges as the Big Winner
Table tennis enthusiasts were treated to an exciting weekend at the English Leagues Cup Competitions finals, hosted by Draycott & Long Eaton TTC. Norwich emerged as the big winner, capturing two of the four trophies on offer.
The highlight for Norwich was their hat-trick of victories in the JM Rose Bowl for senior women. Lauren Charles, who had been part of the winning teams in 2022 and 2023, led the charge once again. Charles gave Norwich a winning start in the final against Plymouth, but Alyssa Nguyen leveled the tie for Plymouth. The doubles went Norwich’s way, and Charles sealed the overall victory with her second singles win.
In the Wilmott Cup for senior men, Central London A edged past a resilient Norwich B team to claim the title. Tianyi Yu and Ching Jay Law put Central London ahead, but Norwich fought back to force a decider, which Yu eventually won.
Norwich’s weekend double was completed as they triumphed over Leamington in the final of the Carter Cup for junior boys. Freddie Wilke and Daniel Change secured the victory for the champions.
However, it was Derby who dashed Norwich’s hopes of a third trophy, as they won the Bromfield Trophy for junior girls. Naomi Coker and Connie Dumelow were the heroes for Derby, securing a comfortable 3-0 victory.
“The English Leagues Cup Competitions finals showcased the depth of talent in the country, with Central London A and Derby also taking home silverware alongside the dominant Norwich team.”
