Tudor Eftinca from St Marys, Hull and Grantham College emerged as the outright winner of the Under-19 boys’ singles at the Ormesby Junior 1 Star Championships, which took place at the Teesside club on Sunday, April 21. Eftinca, pictured above with Ormesby Chairman Alan Ransome OBE, claimed the title while dropping only one game to the player who finished in fourth place, Billy Lee. Securing the second and third positions were Joshua Jackman from Durham and Aaron Christie from Ormesby, respectively.
In the Under-15 boys’ singles, Adam Watson from the NETTS club in Newcastle clinched the top spot. David Sherwood from Harrogate finished in second place, winning all his matches except against the eventual champion, Watson.
The Under-13 boys’ category was won by Harry Tomlinson from St Mary’s, Hull, who swept through all his four matches in straight games.
- Charlie Burnside from Darlington came in second.
- Isaac Davies, also from Darlington, took the third place.
In the U13 Girls’ event, Dorian Cheung from NETTS in Newcastle emerged victorious, securing an unbeaten run and dropping only one game to Scarborough’s Phoebe O’Brien.
Harriet Goodwin from Darlington finished in second place on a countback.
- Aliya Zhuzbayeva of Ormesby and Phoebe O’Brien from Scarborough claimed the third and fourth positions, respectively.
