The 2024 ITTF Al-Watani Para Open, held in the Jordanian capital city of Amman, witnessed a remarkable performance by the host nation’s Fatima El-Elimat. Just under a year after securing two titles at the previous edition of the tournament in June 2023, El-Elimat went one better this time around, emerging as the most successful player with a full house of three titles.
The three-day event, which concluded on Monday, April 22nd, saw El-Elimat claim victory in the:
- Women’s singles class 4
- Mixed doubles class 7-10 (partnering compatriot Osama Abu Jame)
- Women’s doubles class 5-10 (alongside India’s Ushabahen Rathod).
In the 2023 edition, El-Elimat had won the women’s singles class 4-5 and the mixed doubles class 7 with Osama Abu Jame. Her consistent performances and impressive all-around display at this year’s tournament have cemented her status as one of the rising stars in the world of para table tennis.
Alongside El-Elimat’s success, several other players also emerged as multiple champions at the 2024 ITTF Al-Watani Para Open. Osama Abu Jame, Sunnatillo Murodulaev, Muntadher Al-Sarraji, and Dinesh Pitiyage all secured two titles each, showcasing the depth of talent on display.
The tournament witnessed a strong showing from Iraqi players as well, with:
- Rasool Al-Mayyah winning the men’s singles class 2-3
- Hadeel Al-Waeli prevailing in class 1-3
- Abdul Rahman Shafeeq and Najlah Al-Dayyeni triumphing in the mixed doubles class 17-20.
