In a display of table tennis excellence, north London boroughs shone brightly at the recent London Youth Games. Enfield claimed the girls’ competition title, while Camden emerged victorious in the boys’ event.
The tournament, hosted at Redbridge Sports Centre, saw fierce competition from 17 boroughs in the girls’ category and 25 in the boys’. Representing Enfield, Jamie Ravetto and Daisy Watson from Ellenborough TTC navigated their way through the group stage, securing wins against teams from Haringey, Tower Hamlets, Haringey, and Hounslow.
“The boys staying late to support the girls’ team in their final was really appreciated,” remarked Sandy Nash, the Ellenborough club’s Team Manager. “There was a super team spirit from all and lots of fun.”
The Enfield girls continued their momentum, defeating Lewisham in the quarter-finals and the formidable Kensington & Chelsea in the semi-finals. In the final, Sutton put up a strong fight, winning the doubles match, but Ravetto and Watson’s individual wins sealed the victory for Enfield.
Across the hall, Camden emerged triumphant in the boys’ competition, defeating Kingston 4-1 in the final. Barnet clinched the bronze medal, edging out Harrow 5-4.
“I could not have asked for any more from my team. It was a joy to see so many girls competing for their Boroughs on the day, a huge credit to their Team Managers. Also, a big thanks to the organizers at LYG for making it happen!” – Jagrat Patel, the Sutton Team Manager and Coach.
The table tennis showcase at the London Youth Games underscored the growing popularity and skill of the sport among young athletes in the capital. The event provided a platform for these budding table tennis stars to showcase their talents and represent their local communities with pride.
