Table Tennis News: Dimitrov and English Players Shine at International Tournaments
In a thrilling matchup, England’s Dimitrov faced off against Montenegro’s Milan Vucetic at the recent international table tennis event. Dimitrov lost the first game 10-12 but then comfortably took the next two sets 11-7 and 11-6, giving him a 2-1 lead going into the fourth game. Unfortunately, the young English player couldn’t hold his nerve, losing the final two games 8-11 and 10-12, missing out on a spot in the final.
U13s and U15s Competitions
In the U13s competition, Dimitrov was unable to progress past the Round of 16, losing 1-3 to Austria’s Louis Fegerl. This was also the best result for Max Radiven in the U15 boys singles, as he narrowly lost 2-3 to China’s Zining Wang.
Kacper Piwowar crashed out in the Round of 32 of the U15 event, losing 0-3 to Japan’s Soh Yoshida, who went on to win the competition against fellow Japanese player Soma Ono in a close 3-2 final. Abraham Sellado made it to the Round of 64 in the U15s before losing 0-3 to Italy’s Giulio Campagna.
U17 Boys Singles
In the U17 Boys Singles, Larry Trumpauskas reached the last 32 but lost 1-3 to Korea Republic’s Jungmok Lee. Isaac Kingham went out in the Round of 64, losing 0-3 to Kazakhstan’s Alan Kurmangaliyev. Other English players, including Rohan Dani, Kacper Piwowar, Ralph Pattison, and Max Radiven, also exited the U17 competition in the Round of 64.
U19s Event
In the U19s event, Connor Green made it to the Round of 32 before losing 1-3 to 15-year-old Yiren Tang of China, who later reached the semi-finals. Rohan Dani, Ralph Pattison, Isaac Kingham, and Larry Trumpauskas also advanced to the Round of 64 in the U19 category.
Youth Contender in Varazdin, Croatia
At the Youth Contender in Varazdin, Croatia, Tianer Yu went out in the Round of 64 in the Girls U19 Singles, while Hannah Saunders failed to progress out of the Group stages. In the U17 event, Tianer Yu beat Germany’s Lisanne Tschimpke 3-0 in the Round of 64 before losing 0-3 to Korea Republic’s Dahye Lee in the next round.
“Hannah Saunders was unable to make it out of the Group Stages in the U15 competition, but fared much better in the U13s, winning two games 3-0 in the Group stages.”
