International Table Tennis Federation Shines in Governance Evaluation
ITTF Achieves Near-Perfect Score in Transparency, Impresses in Latest Governance Review
In a significant achievement, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has demonstrated remarkable progress in its governance practices, as revealed by the latest review conducted by the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF).
The Fifth Review of International Federation Governance, published on June 25, 2024, assessed the ITTF’s performance across various criteria, including Integrity, Democracy, Development, Control Mechanisms, and notably, Transparency, where the ITTF achieved a near-perfect score.
“Good Governance was a cornerstone of my manifesto, and I am proud to witness the ITTF’s continuous progress during my tenure. The ITTF Secretary General and staff have made significant efforts, and we will persist as there is always room for improvement,” expressed ITTF President and IOC Member Petra Sörling.
The latest review introduced 10 new measurable indicators, aligning the questionnaire with the revised IOC Basic Universal Principles of Good Governance (BUPGG). The ITTF outperformed the average on all new indicators and also improved its score in the 50 indicators from the 2021-2022 review, reflecting its ongoing commitment to excellence.
Sustainability Initiatives and Governance Dissemination
Noteworthy advancements since the previous review include significant initiatives in sustainability. Over recent years, the ITTF has prioritized sustainability, signing UN frameworks, forming dedicated committees, and unveiling its Sustainability Action Plan 2025.
ASOIF also highlighted the ITTF’s efforts to bolster governance among its member associations. The Participation Programme, introduced in 2021, has successfully disseminated good governance principles throughout the membership, showcasing tangible benefits.
“Collaborating with our Member Associations is essential to harness our collective expertise and robust partnerships, promoting global expansion of our sport in a sustainable and responsible manner,” commented Wahid Oshodi, ITTF Executive Vice President in charge of Governance.
The review’s findings are a testament to the ITTF’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance within the table tennis community. As the sport continues to grow in popularity, this achievement positions the ITTF as a leader in good governance, inspiring confidence among table tennis enthusiasts, players, and the broader sports community.
