In the dynamic world of table tennis, a rising star has emerged, capturing the attention of the global sporting community. At the forefront of this wave of talent is Najlah Imad Lafta Al-Dayyeni, a 20-year-old from Iraq who has been making waves in the para table tennis circuit.
The upcoming ITTF Al-Watani Para Championships 2024, a factor 20 tournament for World ranking points, is set to take place in Amman, Jordan, starting on Saturday, 20th April. Al-Dayyeni, the reigning champion, is poised to defend her title in the three-day event.
“Earlier this year, in January, Al-Dayyeni showcased her exceptional skills at the Egypt Para Open, where she clinched the women’s singles class 6 title.”
The true measure of her prowess, however, came in the final, where she defeated the reigning Paralympic Games, World, and European champion, Ukraine’s Maryna Lytovchenko – a feat that has been hailed as one of the biggest upsets of the year.
Joining Al-Dayyeni in Amman will be several other players aiming to repeat their past successes. This includes:
- India’s Baby Sahana Ravi, the women’s singles class 9-10 winner.
- Iran’s Naser Dehghanpour, the men’s singles class 9 champion.
- The host nation’s Faten El-Elimat, the gold medallist in the women’s singles class 4-5.
“Among the local favorites, Osama Abu Jame, the Jordanian who prevailed in the class 8-9 event at the 2022 Al-Watani Championships, will be a strong contender.”
Additionally, Malaysia’s Chee Chaoming, who won the class 8-9 event two years ago, returns to the fold, joining a field of major contenders.
Fans from around the world will be tuning in to witness the thrilling action unfold in Amman, as these talented athletes showcase their skills on the international stage. The ITTF Al-Watani Para Championships 2024 promises to be a true celebration of the resilience, determination, and exceptional talent that defines the world of para table tennis.
