British Athletes Aim for Olympic Qualification at Sarajevo Table Tennis Event
In a highly anticipated table tennis event, a trio of British athletes will join other leading European players in the quest for coveted Olympic qualification spots. The competition, set to take place in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, will see 48 men and 44 women vying for a chance to book their place at the upcoming Paris Olympics this summer.
Liam Pitchford, the world-ranked player, is expected to secure his spot through his current standing, while the trio of Tin-Tin Ho, Anna Hursey, and Paul Drinkhall will be looking to perform at their best in the group stages on Wednesday and Thursday.
“It was really cool to be part of the Team GB set up in Tokyo. It was during COVID, so unfortunately I had to leave early when I finished. Obviously, it would be nice to be in a non-COVID Olympics, I’d love to do it again.”
- Tin-Tin Ho
The winners and runners-up from each group will advance to Stage 2, a knockout format played on Friday and Saturday morning. Those who reach the finals in both the men’s and women’s competitions will secure their place at the Paris Olympics. The two beaten semi-finalists will face off in one final match, with the winner earning the final qualification spot.
As the competition kicks off on Wednesday, 15th May, fans can follow the action live on ETTU.TV, with the planned start times for the British athletes’ matches in Stage 1 provided.
This thrilling table tennis event promises to be a testament to the dedication and skill of the participating athletes, as they vie for the chance to represent their countries at the prestigious Paris Olympics.
