Rayne A Dominates Braintree Table Tennis League Cup Finals

The Rayne A team capped off a successful season in the Braintree Table Tennis League by clinching the team knockout cup at the cup finals evening. This added to their earlier league title triumph, making it a memorable double for the club.

The Netts club continued their dominance, with the C team securing the handicap cup trophy after the B and D teams had already won divisions two and three respectively. Sudbury Wanderers, in only their second season in the league, claimed the restricted cup.

In the team final, Rayne A made light work of Sudbury Nomads. Adam Buxton, Paul Lucas, and Lee McHugh all won their singles matches, with Buxton and McHugh securing victories in four games and Lucas in three. The doubles partnerships of Lucas & Buxton, and Lucas & McHugh sealed the trophy for Rayne A.

The restricted cup final was a closer affair, with Wanderers having to work harder to overcome Rayne E. Despite Rayne taking the opening doubles, Ian Shrubsole, Alex Morgan, and Barry Mann responded to put Wanderers back on track. A tight victory for Abbott & Shrubsole in the doubles, and a crucial win for Mann over Whiteside, secured the trophy for Wanderers.

Netts C continued the club’s success by winning the handicap cup, following the previous triumphs of the E and C teams. Keith Rolfe, Jack Dearsley, and James Rissen were the standout performers for Netts C, who comfortably defeated Black Notley G 5-1.

The article also highlighted several individual achievements throughout the league, including a first treble of the season for Peter Rickwood, a rare treble for Dave Parker, and impressive late-season form for Rayne E’s Matthew Brown and Notley F’s Jamie Brooks.
