English Young Table Tennis Talents Shine at WTT Youth Contender Metz

Four promising English boys made their mark at the WTT Youth Contender Metz, reaching the knockout rounds, although they were unable to advance beyond the last 32. Connor Green and Jakub Piwowar both made it through in the under-19s category, but faced defeat against lower-ranked opponents in the round of 64 – Green succumbing to Gabrielius Camara of the Netherlands, ranked 90 places below him at 186, and Piwowar falling to Nathan Pilard of France, 53 places below him at No 162.

Rohan Dani, despite taking a game off world No 20 junior Alan Kurmangaliyev of Kazakhstan, went out in the group stage of the under-19s. However, Dani fared better in the under-17s, emerging on top of his group through a three-way countback. Jakub Piwowar and Kacper Piwowar also advanced to the round of 64 in the under-17s, but were unable to progress further, with Kacper losing to world No 35 junior Wassim Essid of Tunisia, and Jakub falling to Luca Khidasheli of Spain (WR 311).

Kacper Piwowar also reached the last 32 of the under-15s after winning his group, but was eventually eliminated by Quentin Sandona of France (WR 872) in three close games.

Despite the early exits, the performances of these young English table tennis talents showcased their potential and promise for the future of the sport in the country.
