Pablo Ramirez Rioja Reaches B Final at European Under-13 Championships

In the recent European Under-13 Table Tennis Championships held in Romania, Pablo Ramirez Rioja made it to the B final, while Dimitar Dimitrov was the sole member of the England squad to advance to the main draw. The five-player English team finished 22nd overall, with the athletes also competing in singles and mixed doubles events.

Boys’ Singles

Dimitrov managed to progress through the Boys’ Singles group stage, winning two of his three matches, before bowing out in the last 64 to Sweden’s Joel Isaksson. Teammates Ryan Goodier and Ramirez Rioja were both eliminated in the group phase, but fought their way through the B-final, with Ramirez Rioja defeating Andrei Miscisin of Moldova in the semi-finals before losing to Italy’s Pietro Andreoli in the final.

Girls’ Singles

In the Girls’ Singles, Hannah Saunders and Violet-Lily Marquis both exited the competition in the opening rounds of the B-final, despite Marquis’ spirited comeback against eighth seed Zsofia Fegyver.

Mixed Doubles

The English mixed doubles pairs of Goodier & Marquis, Ramirez Rioja & Saunders, and Dimitrov & Beloslava Balkanska of Bulgaria were all eliminated in the last 64 stage.

“The table tennis tournament provided valuable experience for the young English athletes as they continue their development in the sport. With the strong performances of Ramirez Rioja and Dimitrov in particular, the future looks bright for table tennis in England.”
